Career Success, University of California, Irvine
Goal – This Coursera Specialization (by University of California, Irvine) entitled: Build Essential Skills for the Workplace features 10 different courses to enhance your employability and get ahead in today’s changing workforce.
Project – Courses may be taken in any order, or independently. Upon finishing the Specialization, you will create a Capstone project, where you will demonstrate the skills you have built throughout all the courses. No previous knowledge or experience is required as this is a Beginner Specialization.
Languages – All courses are in English with English, Vietnamese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Dutch, Bulgarian, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, and Ukrainian subtitles available for some portions as well.
Each course uses different mediums to present the modules, so that your learning needs will be met. Course content is taught through:

This Specialization is accredited through the University of California, Irvine, and upon successful completion you will receive Certification to show your skills on LinkedIn or a resume.
Course 1, Project Management: The Basics for Success melds together information and practices from both Project Management and Team Leadership. In this learning module, you will have a deeper comprehension of leadership, the responsibilities that come along with it, and how to use this information in a project setting.
You will learn:

- What goes into creating, monitoring, and running a team
- Effective communication strategies in less than ideal situations
Course 2, Work Smarter, Not Harder: Time Management for Personal & Professional Productivity focuses on using your personal and professional mindfulness, organization, and dedication to combat ineffective time management, so that you can work productively.
In Course 3, Finance for Non-Financial Professionals, you will learn about basic accounting and financing in order to understand how they impact your decisions. This includes:
- Financial v. non-financial perspectives
- Financial analysis
- Strategic planning
- Costs, earnings, and dividends
- Market and valuation methods
Course 4, Communication in the 21st Century Workplace centers on building effective verbal and nonverbal interaction, and applying it work, so that you can become a stronger communicator.
To better your skills this course focuses on:
- Communicating with executives, management, and your peers.
- Persuasion and feedback
- Confidence and conflict
- Communicating efficiently with technology.
Course 5, High-Impact Business Writing develops your business writing skills clearly and succinctly, so that they are strong and can be understood easily. You will learn how use suitable language, formats, style, and objectives to communicate with ease to your intended audience.

- Improve your revision and proofreading skills
- Develop informal and social media communication skills
Course 6, The Art of Negotiation explores both the individual and behavioral features of an effective negotiator in regards to bargaining, relationships, strategy, and power. This course focuses on organizing a negotiation through:
- Behavioral Traits
- Making Offers
- Implementing agreements
In Course 7, Fundamentals of Management, you will develop an understanding of the different roles and responsibilities for management, so that you may succeed in understanding organizations. You will:
- Understand the manager’s role and functions
- Learn the difference between a manager and leader
- Learn the different styles of leadership and management
- Build networking skills
Course 8, Effective Problem-Solving and Decision-Making uses critical thinking skills to confidently succeed by understanding problems and creating effectual solutions. You will learn how to:

- Look at the methods for making a decision
Course 9, Essentials of Entrepreneurship: Thinking & Action provides an understanding of entrepreneurial features and competencies solutions in order to succeed in any scenario. You will have the needed skills to determine whether it’s right to start a business, while also becoming more innovative. This course includes:
- Entrepreneurship process, skills, and tools
- Starting a business
- Marketing strategies and plans
Course 10 is the Career Success Project in which you will apply your gained knowledge to successfully complete a Capstone Project that solidifies and demonstrates your career readiness. You will use your learned skills in communication, management, negotiation, problem solving, business writing, time management, finance, and entrepreneurship from the entirety of the Specialization.
